Missen- Introduction To Chemical Reaction Engineering And Kinetics

Silvia Jy

Introduction to Chemical Reaction Engineering and Kinetics is written primarily for a first course in chemical reaction engineering (CRE) for undergraduate students in chemical engineering. The purpose of the work is to provide students with a thorough introduction to the fundamental aspects of chemical reactor analysis and design. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop a knowledge of chemical kinetics, and therefore the work has been divided into two inter-related parts: chemical kinetics and CRE. Included with this book is a CD-ROM containing computer software that can be used for numerical solutions to many of the examples and problems within the book. The work is primarily based on material given to undergraduate students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto.

Foundations of Chemical Kinetic Modeling, Reaction Models and Reactor Scale-Up

Ivan A Gargurevich

The majority of manuscripts dealing with the subject of chemical reactions, detailed chemical reaction models, and chemical kinetics present the material with strong mathematical foundations and emphasis. This is the reason for the conceptual approach taken in this manuscript where the result of the application of theory in the form of mathematical models is not the major consideration but the understanding of the fundamental concepts behind the complex mathematical theories.

Chemical Kinetic Modeling: Reaction Principles

Ivan A Gargurevich

There are fundamental concepts or understandings involving chemical reactions which would be obvious to any scientist or engineer dealing with the subject on a routine basis. This may not be the case for the engineer which is assigned the task of developing a chemical reactor model including reactions for the first time. For this reason, these concepts dealing with energy, hom*ogeneous and heterogeneous reactions, as well as the various types of possible reactions between compounds will be presented here without much mathematical foundations but illustrated with diagrams or example. Knowledge of the common reactions found in chemistry could be most useful in assembling elementary reactions for the detailed reaction model.

Chemical Reaction Engineering

Leonel Gomez

Chemical Reaction Engineering: Essentials, Exercises and Examples presents the essentials of kinetics, reactor design and chemical reaction engineering for undergraduate students. Concise and didactic in its approach, it features over 70 resolved examples and many exercises. The work is organized in two parts: in the first part kinetics is presented focusing on the reaction rates, the influence of different variables and the determination of specific rate parameters for different reactions both hom*ogeneous and heterogeneous. This section is complemented with the classical kinetic theory and in particular with many examples and exercises. The second part introduces students to the distinction between ideal and non-ideal reactors and presents the basic equations of batch and continuous ideal reactors, as well as specific isothermal and non-isothermal systems. The main emphasis however is on both qualitative and quantitative interpretation by comparing and combining reactors with and without diffusion and mass transfer effects, complemented with several examples and exercises. Finally, non-ideal and multiphase systems are presented, as well as specific topics of biomass thermal processes and heterogeneous reactor analyses. The work closes with a unique section on the application of theory in laboratory practice with kinetic and reactor experiments. This textbook will be of great value to undergraduate and graduate students in chemical engineering as well as to graduate students in and researchers of kinetics and catalysis.

The accuracy of kinetic parameters estimated from batch and integral reactor data

1970 •

Dr A.L. Ravimohan

The accuracy of rate constant estimates obtained by minimizing the sum of squares of differences between observed and calculated concentrations is considered. Closed solutions are obtained for some basic types of first order reaction schemes. The results are presented in the form of plots of the dimensionless variance of parameter estimates. The kineticist can use the plots both in analyzing experiments and in planning them for maximum economy. Such advance studies are capable of providing valuable insight into questions of experimental design even when the reaction scheme is unknown.
