Dodgers minors: Kody Hoese, Diego Cartaya, Alexander Albertus (2024)

It was a big moving day for several Dodgers prospects on Tuesday, including catcher Diego Cartaya to Triple-A and outfielder Josue De Paula to High-A.

Player of the day

Kody Hoese had two hits, and his three-run home run in the sixth inning started Oklahoma City’s comeback win.

After a pair of rough years at the plate in Double-A Tulsa, the Dodgers first-round pick from 2019 has bounced back this year in Triple-A, even when accounting for leveling up in offensive environment. Hoese is hitting .300/.361/.467 this season, and entered Tuesday with a 103 wRC+, after 56 and 79 wRC+ in his two years in Tulsa.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

Six Oklahoma City relievers combined to allow only three runs in a win over the Reno Aces (D-backs).

With Clayton Kershaw shut down for a week with shoulder soreness and his planned Tuesday night rehab start in Reno scratched, Oklahoma City instead used a bullpen game in the series opener. As broadcaster Alex Freedman noted, injuries and a busy month of roster moves by the Dodgers has paved the way for six bullpen games for OKC so far in June.

Left-hander Nick Ramirez started and retired all four batters faced. Tanner Dodson and Matt Gage each pitched two scoreless innings. Kyle Hurt issued a pair of two-out walks but got through a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts for his first save since the 2021 Arizona Fall League.

Trey Sweeney doubled twice and scored a run. Andre Lipcius singled twice and walked.

Cartaya as the designated hitter in his Triple-A debut had the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning that gave OKC the lead for good.

Double-A Tulsa

In the first game of the second half of the schedule, the Drillers lost at home to the Amarillo (D-backs).

Ryan Sublette pitched a scoreless ninth, the only Tulsa pitcher to not allow a run on Tuesday.

Taylor Young and Brendon Davis each had two hits. Young had a double, and Davis added a stolen base. Damon Keith tripled, walked, and scored twice for Tulsa.

High-A Great Lakes

Three straight crooked-number innings against Jose Rodriguez and Kelvin Bautista early dug too deep a hole in the Loons’ loss to the Lake County Captains (Guardians).

Right fielder Dylan Campbell had three hits, including a home run. Second baseman Jordan Thompson hit his first home run since getting promoted to Great Lakes.

De Paula was hitless in three at-bats but also walked in his High-A debut, and played left field.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga scored only run in a loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres), though that run was memorable.

Nineteen-year-old infielder Alexander Albertus, who like Josue De Paula was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in January 2022, played third base in his Low-A debut, and hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Albertus was noted two weeks ago as one of the complex league standouts by Baseball America, thanks in large part to his plate discipline.

Eriq Swan pitched three scoreless innings in his start with two strikeouts, in his first game for the Quakes since April.
